The Road Dance

Kirsty, a young woman, is devastated when her plans to move to America with her boyfriend Murdo are ruined by his deployment in World War I. The night before he leaves, Kirsty is brutally attacked and raped by a mysterious assailant. She becomes pregnant and tries to keep it a secret, but eventually tells her family after learning of Murdo's death. Heartbroken, Kirsty gives birth to a premature baby who dies soon after. In a desperate attempt to escape her grief, Kirsty tries to kill herself, but is rescued by her mother. The truth is eventually revealed, and Kirsty's attacker, the village doctor Maclean, takes his own life after being confronted. Kirsty ultimately finds a new start in America, where she is reunited with Murdo, who had been a prisoner of war in Germany.
