Morven Christie was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland, where she received her early training as an actor. She then went on to attend the prestigious Drama Centre London under the guidance of Reuven Adiv, a renowned acting coach who was a colleague of the legendary Lee Strasberg.
Christie's impressive television career has included starring roles in several critically acclaimed series. Her most notable performance to date is that of DS Lisa Armstrong in ITV's hit series The Bay, which premiered in 2019 and earned her widespread critical acclaim, with The Guardian praising her as "pleasingly finally coming into her own kingdom." The show's success led to Christie's third BAFTA Scotland nomination, with a second season set to air in 2020.
In addition to her work on The Bay, Christie has also starred in the BBC One psychological thriller mini-series The Replacement, which aired in 2017. Her performance as pregnant architect Ellen, whose life spirals out of control as she suspects that her maternity cover is out to take more than just her job, was hailed as "effortlessly convincing" by The Telegraph.
Christie's other notable television roles include her portrayal of Alison Hughes, a mother struggling to come to terms with her son's diagnosis for autism, in the critically acclaimed BBC drama series The A Word. Her performance in the show, which aired in 2016 and 2017, won her rave reviews, with The Hollywood Reporter's Tim Goodman praising her as "perfectly matched" to the show's mission. The eagerly anticipated second season of The A Word aired in 2017, with the third and final season set to air in 2020.
Christie has also appeared in several recurring roles on television, including her portrayal of Amanda Hopkins in the ITV series Grantchester. She played the long-time love interest of Sidney Chambers, played by James Norton, who is kept apart from her by the social conventions of the 1950s.
On the big screen, Christie has featured in an all-star cast including Emily Blunt, Rupert Friend, Paul Bettany, Miranda Richardson, Jim Broadbent, and Mark Strong in the historical drama The Young Victoria, and starred alongside Ben Whishaw and Pei-Pei Cheng in the BAFTA-nominated romantic drama Lilting.
In addition to her work on stage and screen, Christie has also had a successful career in theater, playing leading roles at The Royal Shakespeare Company, for Sam Mendes' Bridge Project in New York and London, and at the National Theatre.
