Jack Andrus, a former film star, is released from a sanitarium after three years, recovering from alcoholism, a traumatic accident, and a mental breakdown. He's offered a two-week job in Rome by his old director, Maurice Kruger, who's struggling to complete his film on time and budget. Jack faces pressure from his ex-wife, a rising star, the director's wife, and a temperamental Italian diva.
