A widow and her two children struggle to survive in French Indochina, 1931, by cultivating rice fields vulnerable to flooding in the Gulf of Siam. With their crops destroyed annually, they rely on building a seawall to secure their future, but face opposition from corrupt colonial officials and the relentless forces of nature.
