In 1945, young French soldier Robert Tassen joins his brother Henri in Hanoi, only to become the sole survivor of a Japanese massacre that claims Henri's life and that of his pregnant wife. Consumed by vengeance, Robert embarks on a solo and clandestine quest to track down his brother's killers, until he crosses paths with Maï, a young Indochinese prostitute, whose presence challenges his beliefs and hatred.
