Aaron Copland is a renowned and multi-talented individual, boasting an impressive array of accomplishments as a composer, author, conductor, lecturer, and educator. His educational background is marked by a series of prestigious institutions, starting with public schools, where he honed his musical skills under the guidance of his sister and later, esteemed mentors such as Leopold Wolfson, Victor Wittgenstein, Clarence Adler, Rubin Goldmark, and Nadia Boulanger.

In 1925, Copland made history by becoming the first composer to receive the coveted Guggenheim fellowship. He went on to become a lecturer at the New School for Social Research for a decade, while also serving as a guest lecturer at Harvard University between 1935 and 1944. Additionally, he held the esteemed position of Dean of the Berkshire Music Center at Tanglewood from 1946.

Copland was instrumental in promoting the work of young American composers, co-organizing the Copland-Sessions concert series with Roger Sessions.
