Biography

Adam Nelson, a young and talented individual, hailing from the historic city of Portsmouth, United Kingdom, embarked on his remarkable journey in the realms of filmmaking and writing at a remarkably early age, with his creative endeavors commencing even before he reached the tender age of ten.

As a child, Adam would often find himself inspired by the films he had watched, and in a bid to bring these cinematic masterpieces to life, he would craft short stories based on his favorite movies. Furthermore, he would utilize his father's VHS camera to create stop-motion films, showcasing his innate ability to think creatively and bring his imaginative ideas to fruition.

As he progressed through his academic career, Adam's passion for film and media studies only intensified, with his studies at A-level further honing his skills in the realm of analog editing equipment. This expertise would ultimately serve him well as he cut a multitude of short films for his peers during his time at university, where he pursued a degree in film studies.

Throughout his academic and creative journey, Adam's dedication to his craft remained unwavering, and his passion for filmmaking and writing continued to flourish, ultimately shaping him into the accomplished individual he is today.

Adam's journey as a director began while he was teaching BTEC film production and overseeing the media department at a prominent further education college, where he honed his skills and developed a passion for filmmaking.

It was during this time that Adam decided to take the leap and direct his first short film, "The House Near Apple Park", which was made on a shoestring budget of zero pounds, solely to test his ability to bring his own vision to life.

The film's success, despite being created on a minuscule budget, garnered widespread acclaim and attention within the early days of the film community on Twitter, specifically the #filmtwitter hashtag, which inspired Adam to push himself further and pursue his dream of developing his first feature film.

As a result, Adam's experiences as a director, teacher, and filmmaker ultimately led him to where he is today, with a newfound sense of confidence and a growing passion for storytelling through the medium of film.

As the summer of 2013 unfolded, a modest £6000 budget was allocated to bring Little Pieces to life, with a steadfast team of cast and crew members dedicated to the project. Throughout the following year, Adam took on the responsibility of editing the film, all while continuing to teach film production, showcasing his multitasking prowess. After a year of meticulous editing, Adam finally completed the film in February 2015, marking the culmination of his tireless efforts. The film's premiere took place at the prestigious Institute of Contemporary Art in April 2015, setting the stage for a global film festival tour. As Little Pieces traveled to festivals around the world, it received widespread acclaim, with reviews overwhelmingly positive, a testament to the film's enduring impact.

In the year 2016, the film in question garnered a nomination for a prestigious National Film Award, rubbing shoulders with other notable films such as The Danish Girl, Macbeth, and 45 Years, all of which were vying for the coveted honor.

Fast forward to 2017, and Little Pieces became accessible to a wider audience, as it was added to the streaming repertoire of Amazon Prime, making it possible for viewers to enjoy the film from the comfort of their own homes.

In the aftermath of the success of Little Pieces, Adam was fortunate enough to secure private investment, which enabled him to bring his short film Emotional Motor Unit to life, marking a significant milestone in his career as a filmmaker.

Adam's inaugural professional production, Emotional Motor Unit, reached its completion in September 2016, marking a significant milestone in his career. This groundbreaking work embarked on a global tour, captivating audiences at various festivals and garnering widespread acclaim. As a result of Emotional Motor Unit's resounding success, Adam was approached to craft the screenplay for Lost Seoul, a poignant true story centered around Jin Stearns, alongside the visionary Director Jane Gull.

Adam has collaborated with Pastel Wasteland to create a segment for the chilling horror anthology, I Am An Addict. This innovative partnership has paved the way for Adam to develop a second anthology concept alongside Rob and a talented group of emerging writers.

In addition to his work on the anthology, Adam has been busy crafting his latest feature film, The Mire. This thought-provoking thriller delves into the darker aspects of human nature, focusing on the manipulative tactics employed by charismatic individuals, particularly a cult leader attempting to escape with stolen funds from his devoted followers.

Through his work on The Mire, Adam masterfully weaves a captivating narrative that explores the blurred lines between persuasion and coercion, raising important questions about the power dynamics at play in such situations. As Adam continues to push the boundaries of storytelling, his unique voice and perspective are sure to captivate audiences and leave a lasting impact on the world of cinema.

In addition to his current endeavors, he has also recently taken on the role of director for a short film titled Frankie Gets Bit, which he himself describes as the antithesis of a traditional zombie movie, instead presenting a unique and unconventional take on the genre.
