Biography

Adele Windsor, born Adele Wormser on September 22, 1898, in Manhattan, New York, was the daughter of Oscar Wormser, a salesman of German descent. She began her acting career with a stock company in Washington D.C., appearing in productions such as Smilin' Thru, The Cat And The Canary, and Madeline Of The Movies.

On December 1, 1923, Adele married actor Donald Gallaher in Boston, a union that had been in the works since childhood. Her Broadway debut came in 1925 with the comedy Naughty Cinderella, followed by a starring role in the show I.O.U. One Woman, where her portrayal of a French flapper earned rave reviews.

In 1928, Adele starred in the play Sh! The Octopus, penned by her husband. The following year, she appeared in the film The Girl From Havana, as well as Frozen Justice and True To The Navy alongside Clara Bow. However, her marriage to Donald ended in 1930, and she subsequently took him to court on multiple occasions, alleging that he had failed to pay his alimony.

Adele's personal life took a tragic turn in May 1931, when she visited her mother and stepfather in New York City. On May 26, she was involved in a serious car accident when her taxi cab collided with a fire truck. Despite being taken to Roosevelt hospital, Adele succumbed to her injuries, including a fractured skull, at the age of just thirty-two. She was buried at Mount Hebron Cemetery in Flushing, Queens.

The cab driver responsible for the fatal accident was arrested for reckless driving, bringing an end to Adele's life and career in a devastating and senseless manner.
