Alano Miller has built a dynamic career as a versatile actor who has effortlessly transitioned between genres, including comedy and drama, in film, television, and theater. He is currently starring as 'Evan Fisher' in Ava DuVernay's anthology drama "Cherish the Day", and will also appear in "Sylvie's Love" alongside Eva Longoria and Tessa Thompson, which will premiere on Amazon this Summer.
Miller co-starred in Misha Green and Joe Pokaski's acclaimed period drama "Underground", where he played 'Cato', a striking, cunning, and charismatic enslaved man. His performance earned him recognition, including being named one of The Hollywood Reporter's Supporting Class of 2016.
In addition to his work on "Underground", Miller appeared in Focus Features' "Loving" alongside Joel Edgerton, Michael Shannon, Ruth Negga, and Nick Kroll, and in the 2013 film "Wish You Well" alongside Ellen Burstyn, Josh Lucas, and Ned Bellamy.
Miller has also had a successful television career, starring in the Emmy award-winning episode "B.A.N." of FX's "Atlanta", as well as the CW's critically acclaimed and Golden Globe Award-winning show "Jane the Virgin". His other television credits include guest appearances on "NCIS", "Battle Creek", "Stalker", "Person of Interest", "Golden Boy", "Ironside", "Vegas", "Damages", "How to Make it in America", and "Royal Pains".
Before pursuing a career in acting, Miller had an impressive academic record, earning a range of awards and titles, including being named a six-time Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratorical Winner and receiving the Key to the City of Orlando. He also holds three national titles in oratory: Elks of the World, NAACP, and Modern Woodsman of America. Out of 8,500 students nationwide, he won the National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts Award and the Presidential Scholar Award.
Miller has also had a successful theatrical career, with credits including playing 'Malcolm King' in Nathan Louis Jackson's "Broke-ology" at Lincoln Center, 'Cory' in August Wilson's "Fences", and 'G.H.' in Paul Green and Richard Wright's "Native Son". His theatrical break came through The New York Times Award-winning playwright, Tarell Alvin McCraney, with whom he worked on McCraney's trilogy as 'Marcus' in "Marcus, or the Secret of Sweet", "The Brothers Size", and "In the Red and Brown Water".
Miller currently resides in California with his wife, Actress and producing partner DeWanda Wise.
