Born in the city of Leningrad in the year 1951, this accomplished individual was the son of a renowned documentary film director, Yefim Uchitel. Following in his father's footsteps, this talented filmmaker went on to graduate from the prestigious VGIK, also known as the All-Russian State University of Cinematography, in 1975.
As a young professional, he began his career as a cameraman and documentary film director at the Leningrad Documentary Film Studio, where he honed his skills and gained valuable experience in the industry. His hard work and dedication eventually led to the establishment of Rock Films, a production company he founded in 1991 and would later serve as both the president and CEO.

His feature film "His Wife's Diary" was even selected as the Russian submission for the Academy Award in 2000 and went on to win the Nika Award, given by the Russian Film Academy, for Best Feature Film in the same year.
