Andrea Jaurrieta Bariain, a talented individual, was born in Pamplona, Navarra, in the year 1986. Following her graduation in Audiovisual Communication from the prestigious Complutense University of Madrid, she furthered her education by completing a directing program at ESCAC and a course in dramatic art at the renowned William Layton Lab.
In the early stages of her career, Jaurrieta participated in the creation of several short films, including Entresuelo (2008),SED (2009),Todos acabaremos solos (2011),A pleno sol (2012),Los años dirían (2013),and Nuestras pájaros vuelan solas (2016).
Undeterred by traditional funding methods, Jaurrieta employed a crowdfunding campaign to finance her inaugural feature film, Ana de día (2018),which starred the talented Ingrid García-Jonsson. Her work received widespread recognition, earning her a nomination for the esteemed Goya Award for best new director.
Jaurrieta's sophomore feature film, Nina (2024),premiered at the 27th Malaga Film Festival, where it won the coveted Critics' Award. This film, starring the accomplished Patricia López Arnaiz, sees Jaurrieta re-exploring the theme of broken identities, a motif she previously tackled in Ana de día. Once again, Jaurrieta opted for a cinematic approach that deliberately diverges from naturalism, showcasing her distinct artistic vision.
