Andrea Velasco was born in Santiago, Chile, and showed a strong interest in acting, dancing, and music from an early age. She was particularly drawn to soul and jazz music, which led her to begin practicing singing on her own.
As she grew older, Andrea's passion for music and performance only intensified. At the age of 15, she began studying popular music and singing, and she soon developed a career that incorporated Afro and Latin rock influences. Throughout her school years, she also took part in numerous theatrical events, which further fueled her desire to pursue a career in the performing arts.
Andrea's formal education in acting began in 2001 when she enrolled at Finis Terrae University in Santiago. She was awarded a "Merit Diploma" for her outstanding performance in the School of Acting the following year. This achievement marked the beginning of her professional career as an actress.
Over the next few years, Andrea continued to hone her craft, studying acting, theatrical direction, and music in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She returned to Chile in 2006 and earned her BA Professional Actress degree, with the highest score at the Final Exam's evaluation, for her role as Mama Ubú in the play King Ubú of Alfred Jarry.
Andrea's talent and dedication did not go unnoticed. In 2007, the Chilean National Council for the Arts and Culture awarded her with a "Honorable Mention" for her play El Sobre Azul (The Blue Envelope) at the XIII National Contest of Playwrights. The play was later presented as a stage reading at The Chilean National Theater.
In 2009, Andrea was granted a FONDART recognition, one of the most prestigious awards established by the Chilean government, which includes financing for artistic projects. This recognition was for her play El Sobre Azul, which she directed and is still being staged today.
As a singer, Andrea has performed in a jazz and soul quartet and has been involved in various independent musical projects that span different styles, including rock and pop.
Andrea has also had a successful career in film and television. She made her debut as a film actress in 2010 with the movie "Que Pena Tu Vida" as Ángela De María, directed by Nicolás López and produced by Sobras International Production. The movie was a huge success, and it led to the creation of two sequels, "Que Pena Tu Boda" in 2011 and "Que Pena Tu Familia" in 2013, which were also produced by Sobras International Production.
Andrea's performance in the "Que Pena" trilogy earned her a nomination for "Best Movie Actress" at the "Altazor" Awards in 2012. In 2014, she debuted as a solo singer with her album "Piñata", which earned her a nomination for "Revelation Artist" in the Chile Music Awards "Pulsar 2015".
In 2018, Andrea made her debut in NY theater with the play "Verano Verano" by Myrna Casas, IATI Theater, winning the Best Actress Award at ATI Awards 2019. She also won the Best Actress Award at the Rahway Film Festival, LA Diversity Film Festival, and Best Short film at the New York Latino Film Festival 2018 for her role in the short film "Desde el Principio" by Miguel Soliman.
Today, Andrea is based in the USA, where she continues to develop her career in film, television, theater, and music, working on projects both in Chile and internationally.
