Andrucha Waddington, born Andrew Waddington on January 20th, 1970, is a renowned Brazilian film and television director, screenwriter, and producer. His impressive filmography includes "Me You Them" (2000),which received a Mention Spéciale of the Un Certain Regard Jury in Cannes, and was selected for the Toronto and Sundance Film Festivals, as well as being Brazil's official entry to the Academy Awards (Best Foreign Language Film). The film also won several awards, including Best Film at the Karlovy Vary, Havana, and Cartagena Film festivals.
Waddington's subsequent works include "The House of Sand" (2005),which premiered at the Berlin, Toronto, and Sundance festivals, and won the Sundance/NHK International Filmmakers Script and Alfred Sloan awards. He also directed the Brazil/Spain co-production "Lope" (2010),which was selected for the Venice and Toronto festivals, and won two Goya Awards.
In addition to his feature films, Waddington has also directed and produced several documentary films, including "Gilberto Gil - Viva Sao João" (2002) and "Maria Bethania - Pedrinha de Aruanda" (2007). His television credits include the drama series "Under Pressure" (2017-2022),which received rave reviews and high ratings, as well as the documentary-series "André Midani - From Vinyl to Download" (2015),and the limited series "The End" (2023, Globoplay).
Currently, Waddington is directing and producing the limited series "Angela Diniz - Murdered and Convicted," for HBO Max, and an untitled Netflix documentary on Real Madrid's giant soccer player Vini Jr. He has also been involved in various other projects, including the creative direction of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, alongside Fernando Meirelles and Daniela Thomas.
Throughout his career, Waddington has been a partner with Rio de Janeiro-based Conspiração Filmes, a leading Brazilian production company, since 1995. His extensive body of work showcases his versatility and talent as a director, producer, and screenwriter, and has earned him numerous awards and accolades.
