Anoushka Shankar, a renowned sitar player and composer, was born on June 9, 1981, in the vibrant city of London. As a young child, Anoushka began her musical journey at the tender age of nine, training on the sitar under the guidance of her illustrious father, the legendary Ravi Shankar. By the age of thirteen, she was already giving her first public performances, showcasing her remarkable talent to the world.
Anoushka's impressive discography includes her debut album, "Anoushka", released in 1998, as well as five subsequent studio albums. Her latest project, a new album, is scheduled for release in autumn 2011, much to the anticipation of her devoted fans.
In addition to her music, Anoushka has also made a name for herself in the world of film. In 2003, she played the sitar and conducted the performances in "Concert for George", a concert documentary commemorating the first anniversary of George Harrison's passing. The same year, she composed and recorded the soundtrack for the unique short film "Ancient Marks", directed by Ethan Boehme. Anoushka's debut acting role in "Dance Like a Man" earned her a Best Supporting Actress nomination from India's National Film Awards in 2004. She also lent her skills to the soundtrack of the 2006 film "Water".
When not touring or recording, Anoushka divides her time between her homes in London, Delhi, and California. In 2010, she tied the knot with British director Joe Wright, and is expecting their first child in spring 2011.
