Anushka Sharma's early life began on May 1, 1988, in the sacred city of Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, where her father, Colonel Ajay Kumar Sharma, a devoted army officer, and her mother, Ashima Sharma, a homemaker, welcomed her into the world. Her father's roots are deeply embedded in Uttar Pradesh, while her mother hails from the picturesque region of Garhwal. Anushka's elder brother, Karnesh Sharma, is a film producer who previously served in the Merchant Navy, having played for the under-19 Bangalore Ranji cricket team before joining the navy.
Growing up as a military brat had a profound impact on Anushka's personality and life, and she often takes pride in stating that she is an army officer's daughter even more than being an actor. She spent her formative years in Army School and graduated with a specialization in arts from Mount Carmel College, Bangalore. Her desire to make a name for herself in the modeling world led her to move to Mumbai, where she began her modeling career, walking the ramp for renowned designers like Wendell Rodricks at the Lakme Fashion Week. Her modeling career took off, with campaigns for prominent brands like Silk & Shine, Whisper, Nathella Jewelry, and Fiat Palio.
Anushka's foray into the world of acting began with Aditya Chopra's Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008),opposite the charismatic Shah Rukh Khan. The film's massive success and her impressive performance earned her widespread acclaim. Film critic Taran Adarsh praised her, stating, "Anushka looks the character and surprises you with a confident performance. It's no small achievement to share screen space with an actor of the caliber of SRK, and Anushka manages it very well from start to end." Her second film, Badmaash Company, under Yash Raj Films, released on May 7, 2010, and she received praise for breaking out of her shell to play the feisty and independent Bulbul.
Anushka's upcoming projects include Patiala House, directed by Nikhil Advani and starring Akshay Kumar, scheduled for release on February 11, 2011, and Band Baaja Baaraat, directed by Maneesh Sharma and co-starring debutant Ranveer Singh, both under the banner of Yash Raj Films.
