Born on August 14, 1970, Unnikrishnan Bhaskaran Pillai, now a distinguished Indian film director and screenwriter, has made a significant impact in the Malayalam cinema industry. Following the completion of his post-graduation in English Literature, he went on to achieve an impressive feat by earning his M. Phil degree from Mahatma Gandhi University, securing a first rank in the year 1991.
Unnikrishnan's innate fascination with the art of writing ultimately propelled him to share his thoughts and ideas with the world by publishing a plethora of literary pieces, delving into the realms of politics, culture, and literature, during the early 1990s.
Simultaneously, he collaborated with the esteemed V. C. Haris to curate a series of books that explored the complex and multifaceted concept of postmodernism, which was subsequently published by the renowned DC Books.
In the year 2000, he embarked on a journey into the realm of the film industry by assuming the role of a screenwriter, his debut script being that of Jalamarmaram, a cinematic endeavor that ultimately earned him the prestigious Kerala State Film Award for Best Screenplay in the same year. This noteworthy achievement was swiftly followed by his work on another film, Cover Story, which was released in 2000.

In the year 2013, a significant event took place, where the newly elected General Council of FEFKA, a prominent organization in the film industry, held a unanimous vote to re-elect a prominent individual as their General Secretary. This individual, Unnikrishnan, has also held other notable positions, including being a member of the advisory committee of Cine Workers Welfare Board, a organization dedicated to the well-being of film industry workers.
January 2014 marked a significant milestone in the professional journey of an individual, as he received the unanimous support of his peers and was elected as the General Secretary of the All India Film Employees Confederation (AIFEC) at the National Conference held in the vibrant city of Mumbai.
