Baekhyun was born in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, and is the younger brother of Byun Baek-beom, who is seven years his senior. His passion for music began at the tender age of 11, inspired by the remarkable talent of South Korean singer Rain.
Throughout his formative years, Baekhyun honed his skills by attending Jungwon High School in Bucheon, where he led the school band Honsusangtae and won a local music festival. He also received valuable piano lessons from Kim Hyun-woo, a member of the South Korean rock band DickPunks.
In addition to his musical pursuits, Baekhyun has a rich background in martial arts, holding a dan 3 black belt in Hapkido. His exceptional talent and charisma on stage are matched by his bright, cheerful, and childlike personality off stage.
Interestingly, Baekhyun was discovered by an SM Entertainment agent while preparing for the entrance exams to the Seoul Institute of the Arts, leading him to join the renowned entertainment agency in 2011 through the S.M. Casting System.
Currently, alongside fellow EXO members Chanyeol and Suho, Baekhyun attends Kyung Hee Cyber University, taking online classes for the Culture and Arts Department of Business Administration.
