Balaji Sakthivel's initiation into the world of filmmaking commenced as an apprentice director under the tutelage of the illustrious S. Shankar, a master of the cinematic craft.
After a two-year period of absence from the filmmaking scene, Sakthivel made a triumphant return with the release of Kaadhal, a cinematic endeavour produced under the auspices of S Pictures, a prestigious production house founded by the illustrious Shankar.
This notable film, which showcased the talents of relatively new and emerging actors Bharath and Sandhya, achieved an astonishing level of commercial success, thereby propelling the stars and the director to instant recognition and widespread acclaim.

Sakthivel, an individual with a rich personal life, is married to Dr. L.R.S. Kalanithi, a highly accomplished Associate Professor of English and Vice-principal (Students' Affairs) of Guru Nanak College (Autonomous),Chennai. His spouse, Dr. Kalanithi, is a distinguished educator and academic leader who has made significant contributions to the field of English literature. The couple shares a loving relationship and has been blessed with two wonderful children. Their daughter, B.K.Koushi Mahalakshmi, was born in the year 2004, and their son, B.K.Vidhyadharan, was born in 2007. Sakthivel and his family have a strong connection to their ancestral roots in Dindigul, and they initially resided in the Virugambakkam neighborhood of Chennai. However, they have recently relocated to a nearby area, Ramapuram, Chennai, where they continue to build their life together.
