Belita, born Maria Belita Jepson-Turner on October 21, 1923, in Hampshire, England, was a talented dancer and ice skater. She began training in dance at the age of 2 and later studied ballet with Sir Anton Dolin. Belita's parents, a military officer and a royal physician's daughter, encouraged her to pursue a career in dance.
Belita's ice skating skills were exceptional, and she appeared in the 1936 Olympic games at the age of 12. She turned professional two years later and continued to perform and compete, eventually making her film debut in the 1941 movie Ice-Capades.
Belita's film career included roles in Silver Skates (1943),Lady, Let's Dance (1944),and Suspense (1946),among others. She also appeared in several stage productions, including "The Cherry Orchard" and "Twelfth Night".
Belita retired from her skating career in 1956 and eventually retired from acting as well. She spent time in England and later married Irish-born actor James Berwick in 1967. Belita passed away in France on December 18, 2005, at the age of 82.
