Ben's foray into the realm of cinema commenced in the year 1995, marking the inception of his remarkable journey as a producer and actor in the film industry. It was during this pivotal moment that he brought to life his first feature-length film, a poignant coming-of-age drama titled "Backstreet", at an astonishingly young age of 16.
Two years subsequent to his initial foray into the film industry, the individual in question took on the dual roles of producer and lead actor in a low-budget gangster thriller, aptly titled "Tragic Irony". This modest production was crafted on a remarkably meager budget of £6,000, drawing creative inspiration from the cinematic masterpieces of "Pulp Fiction" and "Shallow Grave".
Ben's inaugural foray into directing was marked by the creation of the pilot episode for a documentary-style drama series cleverly titled "How To Get Away With Murder". This significant milestone in his career was swiftly followed by a decision to temporarily put his involvement in the film industry on hold as he embarked upon a journey of academic pursuit, opting to enroll in a program focused on Politics at Swansea University. Furthermore, he went on to successfully complete a Doctor of Philosophy degree on the subject of the European Union, a feat that demonstrated his unwavering dedication to intellectual growth and exploration. Not content to rest on his laurels, Ben subsequently threw his hat into the political ring, opting to run for a seat in the UK Parliament. Eventually, however, his first love, filmmaking, beckoned once more, and he made the decision to return to the craft that had initially captured his imagination.
Ben was involved in the production of a 35mm short film titled "Beached" in the year 2009, in a collaborative effort with The London Film School.
This short film, which was crafted with meticulous attention to detail, was showcased at the prestigious Strasbourg International Film Festival, where it was met with critical acclaim.
In addition to its screening at the Strasbourg International Film Festival, "Beached" was also featured at the renowned Short Film Corner at the Cannes Film Festival, further solidifying its status as a standout in the world of short filmmaking.
Ben devoted numerous weekends to refining his skills at London's esteemed Raindance film training courses, a valuable experience that ultimately enabled him to take the bold step of directing his inaugural feature film, a gripping crime thriller entitled "Two Days in the Smoke". This cinematic endeavour was, in fact, a reworking of his earlier creative endeavour, "Tragic Irony", and boasted an impressive cast featuring the talented Matt di Angelo, Lili Bordán, and the accomplished Alan Ford. The film was initially released in the United Kingdom in October 2014 under the title "The Smoke", subsequently making its international debut in 2015 as "London Payback".
Ben's subsequent projects showcased his versatility as a filmmaker, with co-production credits on the Isle of Man heist caper "Ratted Out", a thrilling tale of crime and deception. He also lent his expertise as an associate producer on the psychological thriller "The Stranger", a gripping exploration of the human psyche. Returning to his roots as a director, Ben helmed the portmanteau film "Welcome to Curiosity", a captivating cinematic journey set against the stunning backdrop of Cornwall. This ambitious project boasts an impressive cast, featuring the talented Amrita Acharia, Richard Blackwood, and Stephen Marcus. With a release date slated for 2017, "Welcome to Curiosity" promises to be a must-see cinematic experience.
