Bob Sarles is a multifaceted creative professional with extensive experience as a producer, director, and Primetime Emmy-nominated film and television editor. His impressive body of work includes editing the Peabody Award-winning documentary series Moon Shot, the groundbreaking reality series The Real World, and numerous unscripted and documentary television series and specials that have aired on prominent networks such as Showtime, HBO, NBC, ABC, Bravo, VH1, Discovery, FX, A&E, WE, Oxygen, and TVOne.
As a co-director and editor, Sarles worked on the feature documentary BANG! The Bert Berns Story, which premiered at SXSW and was later distributed by Apple. He also directed and edited the Sony Legacy-produced documentary Sweet Blues: A Film About Mike Bloomfield, as well as films showcased at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the EMP Museum, and the Stax Museum of American Soul Music.
Sarles has a strong background in music television, having produced and edited VH1's Behind The Music series, A&E's Biography, and the TVOne music documentary series Unsung. He has also directed and edited DVDs for notable artists such as Jefferson Airplane, John Lee Hooker, and Phil Lesh & Friends, and produced and edited the triple platinum-selling nine-DVD boxed set Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Live!
In addition to his work in music television, Sarles has directed and edited award-winning music videos for top rock, rap, and country artists, including ZZ Top's "Legs" and Green Day's "Longview." He has also cut national television spots for prominent brands such as Nike, Reebok, and Miller Beer, working with renowned directors like James Cameron and Barry Sonnenfeld.
Sarles has held various leadership positions throughout his career, including heading the Commercial Editorial Department of Industrial Light & Magic as Senior Editor. He has also edited historical feature documentaries like Mata Hari: The Naked Spy and cult horror films like The Video Dead.
As an assistant and apprentice editor, Sarles worked on feature films such as Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Henry & June, and The Right Stuff. His recent projects include directing and editing the feature documentary Born In Chicago, producing and editing a television documentary about Ozzy Osbourne for A&E, and directing and editing the documentary short "Yo Cip!"
Currently, Sarles is editing a true crime documentary executive produced by Barry Levinson and Tom Fontana, and is in production as director on a documentary about the life and times of the late American satirist Paul Krassner.
