Brenda Banda, a native Angeleno, is a multifaceted individual with a passion for the arts and entrepreneurship. Growing up in South Central Los Angeles, she found solace in the arts and sports, which became her safe haven amidst the challenges of her neighborhood.
As a young girl, Banda's interest in acting was sparked by a 2nd-grade field trip to a production of Peter Pan, which left her daydreaming about becoming an actor someday. She went on to co-found the women's soccer team at San Fernando High School and directed, produced, and acted in her first theatre production, a Spanish play, which earned her teacher's support and encouragement.
In 2010, Banda co-founded the Urban Theatre Movement, a theatre company that aimed to provide a platform for underrepresented voices. She also joined a Rock En Español band, Encrucijada, and began to pursue her passion for music.
As she grew older, Banda's focus shifted towards theatre coaching, and she became an artist with Inside Out Community Arts, a program that provided arts education to under-served public schools and communities. She has also worked with various organizations, including CNCA Camino Nuevo Burlington, B.R.I.D.G.E. Theatre Project, and ENACT.
In addition to her work in the arts, Banda is also an entrepreneur, co-founding Urban Legends, a yearly one-acts theatre festival, and creating her own fitness mini digital series, Fit for A Queen. She is currently working on a comic book series, Sophia Azul, The Blue Witch, and has recently landed a recurring role in the Netflix Original Series Gentefied.
Banda's inspirations include fellow actress Viola Davis, who she admires for her strength, energy, and ability to own her space. She hopes to inspire others who may feel that life has passed them by, and is determined to continue working and learning to take care of her mother, who has been her driving force throughout her journey.
