As part of MainMan production company under Tony Defries, she effectively promoted Bowie's "Diamond Dogs" album, generating immense hype with her clever phrase: "If you want to know the meaning of this album, just spell DOG - BACKWARDS!"
Prior to her stint with Bowie, Cherry Vanilla was an integral part of Andy Warhol's entourage, an artist and master of hype who fascinated Bowie, an art student turned rock icon. Within the vibrant glam-rock jet-set of Max's Kansas City, she rubbed shoulders with like-minded individuals, eventually leaving the United States and the jet-set scene in the late 1970s to pursue a recording career in the United Kingdom.
In Britain, Cherry Vanilla released two albums, characterized by her bold and often provocative lyrics. Her debut album, "Bad Girl," released by RCA in the UK, featured tracks such as "I Know How to Hook," "Foxy Bitch," and "Little Red Rooster," which allegedly was written about Bowie during his Ziggy Stardust persona. The album's success was followed by "Venus d'Vinyl" in 1979, also released by RCA in the UK. These two albums were later compiled and released as a single CD in the United States in 2000.
