Biography

Christopher Sands' remarkable journey began when, at the tender age of 16, he was handpicked by the esteemed Casting Director Shari Rhodes to take on the highly coveted role of a Lifeguard in the groundbreaking film, JAWS, directed by the illustrious Steven Spielberg.

This formative experience had a profound impact on Sands, leading him to make the bold decision to relocate to Los Angeles after graduating from Harvard College in 1979 with a degree in Russian History.

This pivotal moment marked the beginning of his foray into the world of film production, fueled by his unwavering passion for the craft.

Throughout his career, Sands has continued to be driven by his creative vision, consistently pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the world of film.

Upon settling into the vibrant city of Los Angeles, Sands kickstarted his career by securing a position as a Desk Assistant at the esteemed ABC News organization. This marked the beginning of a fruitful professional journey, during which he would go on to form a collaborative partnership with the accomplished producer/director, John Rich. Their initial collaboration took place at the renowned 20th Century Fox, before they relocated to ABC Television and later Witt-Thomas-Harris, where Sands played a pivotal role as Assistant Producer on the critically acclaimed television series, Benson. This highly acclaimed program boasted an impressive cast, led by the incomparable Robert Guillaume, who brought his remarkable talents to the iconic role.

Sands collaborated with Writer/Director Djordje Milicevic, serving as an Assistant Producer on the film Riding Fast, which boasted the impressive talent of Meg Foster. Subsequently, he became an integral part of the team at Ohlmeyer Productions/RJR Nabisco, where he took on a variety of creative and production roles, predominantly as Associate Producer, on a diverse range of projects.

In the year 1988, Philip Sands, a renowned figure in the Hollywood entertainment industry, made the groundbreaking and courageous decision to pivot away from the spotlight and redirect his career trajectory, embarking on a new path as a film producer and communications executive within the esteemed Harvard University School of Public Health.

During his tenure at this prestigious institution, Sands was instrumental in producing, directing, and writing a multitude of short documentaries and public health public service announcements (PSAs),all of which were meticulously crafted to address the pressing and critical issue of the HIV pandemic, a global health crisis that had been gaining momentum and attention at the time.
