Christopher Smith is a renowned British filmmaker, celebrated for his work in the horror, thriller, and dark comedy genres, with a distinctive talent for skillfully blending genres. Born in Bristol, England, he pursued his passion for filmmaking at Bristol University, where he earned a Master's degree in Film Studies and Production.
Smith made his feature film debut in 2004 with the successful horror movie Creep, set in the London Underground, which garnered widespread acclaim. He followed this success with Severance in 2006, a horror-comedy that cleverly merged corporate satire with slasher elements. The film's global release and screening at the prestigious Telluride Film Festival cemented its status as the first horror film to do so.
In 2009, Smith directed Triangle, a thought-provoking psychological thriller that delved into the complexities of time loops and alternate realities. The film, starring Melissa George, received widespread critical acclaim for its ambitious narrative structure and has since developed a devoted cult following. The following year, he directed Black Death, a medieval horror film set during the plague, starring Sean Bean and Eddie Redmayne.
