Born in Milladore, Wisconsin, Darrel is the son of Bonnie (Muzik),a devoted homemaker, and David Cherney, a dedicated dairy farmer. He boasts a rich cultural heritage, being of Czech Bohemian and German descent.
During his formative years, Darrel spent his time working on his father's farm, commuting to city schools located many miles away from his rural home. This unique upbringing had a profound impact on his life.
In high school, Darrel's primary focus was on being the frontman of a rock 'n roll band, rather than his academic pursuits. It wasn't until years later, when offered a role by the artistic director of an avant-garde theater company, that he began his journey into the world of acting.
As he delved deeper into his craft, Darrel discovered a passion for comedy and joined a sketch-comedy group, allowing him to explore his comedic side and develop a strong connection to the stage. It was the members of this group who encouraged Darrel to pursue an acting degree.
Darrel went on to receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from the conservatory program at The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. His impressive physical presence, powerful voice, and larger-than-life personality enabled him to secure leading roles before graduating with a Special Recognition Award.
After touring Montana with a production of "Much Ado About Nothing", Darrel set his sights on Los Angeles, seeking to make a name for himself in the film and television industry.
