David Jason Perez is a Filipino-American entertainer who initially gained attention in the television and film world by playing hip and edgy nightclub DJ roles in hit shows. His breakthrough appearance was on Dollhouse, where he played the featured role of the nightclub's DJ. He then made several appearances on 90210 and Parenthood, playing the DJ in party scenes.
After expanding his range of characters, Perez pursued a career in film, making a breakthrough appearance on "1000 Ways To Die" as the principal breakdancer for the "Superstar" episode. He has since appeared in the hit TV show "New Girl" as a day player, playing the role of Trevor, and has danced in numerous independent artists' music videos.
By the age of six, Perez was already dancing to Michael Jackson's music and practicing his moves. At eight, he was writing poems, singing, composing his own music, and writing his own lyrics. At ten, he was filming homemade movies with his father's 8mm video camera, making comedy, action, and drama movies at a young age.
Perez discovered the hobby and craft of DJing and turntablism at the age of 11, and it appealed to him, making him dedicated to the art. He landed his first major DJ gig at 12 and continued to DJ for various events throughout his adolescent years.
As a DJ, Perez also pursued a dance career, making appearances for Six Flags Magic Mountain Halloween dance events and live stage performances. He choreographed lip sync and school performances during his high school senior years.
Perez's grandfather, Vicente M. Perez, was an established jazz musician who played the keyboard/piano for his jazz band, "Dominic", and released over 10 albums in the past 60 years. His grandfather was his true inspiration, and he continued to pursue his passion for entertainment, just as his grandfather did.
By the age of 21, Perez wanted to take his DJing and music career to the next level and purchased a Roland Phantom keyboard/synthesizer. He formed a hip-hop/R&B production crew with his lifelong high school friends Shawn "Produce" Lee & Trevor Long aka Legendary, and they became known as "Cali-Known Entertainment" aka "Ingenious Records".
Perez received his Associate of Arts in Business from DeVry University by the age of 25 and worked part-time doing clerical work in an office. By the age of 27, he received his license in Massage Therapy in the state of California.
Perez grew up in the suburbs of West Hills, CA, where he participated in productions at a local community college. During his mid-twenties, his passion for acting started to become more prevalent, as he started getting more exposure and landing more roles in television shows and films. He decided to enroll in a few acting courses and meet with acting coaches to train him.
Perez made his premiere non-DJ role for a television show "New Girl" as he interacts with the lead character. By the age of 28, he is signed by a commercial agency to further pursue his career.
