David Roach is a distinguished alumnus of Australia's National Art School, where he honed his skills as a writer and director. His recent body of work is a testament to his remarkable talent, with his documentary "Red Obsession" narrated by the acclaimed Russell Crowe, earning official selection at some of the world's most prestigious film festivals, including Berlin, Tribeca, Seattle, Hong Kong, Sydney, and Melbourne.
Roach's impressive accolades include the 2014 AACTA Award for Best Direction and Best Feature Documentary, as well as the AWGIE Award for Best Screenplay, and the One Video Award for Best Feature Film in France.
In addition to his documentary work, Roach is also a successful feature film writer and director. His multi-award-winning WWI film, "Beneath Hill 60", has been hailed as one of the greatest Australian films ever made by The Spectator, and even earned the praise of Sir Peter Jackson, who referred to it as "the best WWI film since Peter Weir's Gallipoli". The film won numerous awards, including Best Screenplay from the Film Critic's Circle of Australia, Best Film, Best Director, and Best Male Lead at the Savannah International Film Festival, as well as the Sloan Foundation Prize for Best Feature at the Hamptons International Film Festival.
Roach has also written and co-produced the critically acclaimed BBC documentary, "Singer, A Dangerous Mind", which explores the life and philosophy of the controversial thinker, Peter Singer.
Prior to his success in documentary and feature film, Roach worked as a writer and producer on several films, including the Warner Bros. movies "Young Einstein" and "Reckless Kelly", as well as "Mr Accident" for MGM/UA. In 2013, he served as script and story consultant on the film "Drift", starring Sam Worthington.
Roach currently resides on the coast just south of Sydney, Australia, with his wife, Caroline Baum, a journalist, broadcaster, and film producer.
