Dayahang was born on April 13, 1980, in a remote village within the Bhojpur district, situated in the eastern part of Nepal. He was raised in a middle-class family consisting of seven members, with his father being a polygamist with two wives. Dayahang has two younger sisters and an elder brother, Bidur Lamichhane Rai.
Dayahang's educational journey began at Pashupati Lower Secondary School in Khawa VDC, Bhojpur district, where he completed his lower secondary-level studies. He then moved on to Annapurna Secondary School in Dilpa, where he completed his high school education in 1998. During his childhood, his mother would regale him with numerous fairy tales, which inspired him to pursue a career in the performing arts.
Dayahang's passion for acting began during his school days, and he continued to nurture this interest throughout his academic life. After completing his intermediate-level studies at Bhojpur Multiple College, with geography as his major subject, he made the decision to relocate to Kathmandu in 2001. He enrolled in the Nepal Maanawiki Campus (formerly known as RR Campus) as a journalism major, but unfortunately, he struggled to excel in his studies.
However, Dayahang's passion for the performing arts soon took over, and he shifted his focus towards theatre and stage shows.
