Jun Yong Soo, alias Don Gordon Bell, was adopted at the tender age of six and relocated to Los Angeles, California. Born as a Korean War orphan, he began his journey in the entertainment industry at a young age, making appearances in films and television shows, including a stint on the popular Loretta Young Show.
Growing up as a bi-racial individual with Korean and American roots, Don struggled to identify with his heritage, describing himself as a "kinda-sorta Oriental/Asian kid". However, his curiosity about his cultural background led him to explore the world of martial arts, which became a significant part of his life.
After serving in the US Marines during the Vietnam War, Don relocated to the Philippines in 1975, just as the iconic film Apocalypse Now was gearing up to start production. He caught the attention of renowned director Francis Ford Coppola, who offered him a position in the Casting Department. Don played a crucial role in training foreign and Filipino talents, as well as coordinating logistics on set.
Over the next decade, Don established himself as a talented and versatile individual, taking on various roles in the entertainment industry, including acting, casting, and photography. He honed his skills in still photography, capturing behind-the-scenes moments and portraits of industry professionals. His passion for photography led him to cover film festivals and premieres, solidifying his reputation as a talented photographer.
As the years passed, Don left the Philippines in 1985 but returned in 2011, drawn back to the country's vibrant film industry. He resumed his work as a still photographer and behind-the-scenes expert, capturing the essence of the film world. Additionally, he continued to act, albeit in senior citizen roles, sharing his unique experiences and perspectives with the world.
Throughout his life, Don has been driven by his passion for storytelling, his love for his adopted homeland, and his determination to explore and celebrate his cultural heritage. His remarkable journey, marked by twists and turns, has culminated in a life of creativity, adventure, and purpose.
