Here is the biography of Don Murray:
Don Murray was an American actor, born in 1929 to Dennis Aloisius Murray and Ethel Cook. His father was a dance director and stage manager, while his mother was a singer who performed in the Ziegfeld Follies. Murray attended East Rockaway High School, where he was a member of the football, track, and glee clubs, and graduated in 1947.
After high school, Murray attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Manhattan, graduating in 1951. He made his Broadway debut in 1951, playing Jack Hunter in a stage version of "The Rose Tattoo". His stage career was interrupted when he was drafted into the US military during the Korean War, where he served as a conscientious objector and was honorably discharged in 1954.
Murray's film debut came in 1956 with "Bus Stop", for which he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He went on to appear in a wide range of films, including "The Bachelor Party", "A Hatful of Rain", "From Hell to Texas", "These Thousand Hills", "Shake Hands with the Devil", and "The Viking Queen".
In the 1960s, Murray continued to appear regularly in films, often playing period dramas. He also had a co-starring role in the Western television series "The Outcasts" from 1968 to 1969. In 1972, he played the role of Governor Breck in "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes", and was offered the role of Breck in the sequel, but refused due to feeling that there was no fun in playing the tyrant twice.
In the 1970s and 1980s, Murray appeared in a mix of films and television shows, including "Deadly Hero", "Knots Landing", "Endless Love", "I Am the Cheese", and "Peggy Sue Got Married". In the 1990s, he had guest star roles in various television series and appeared in a handful of television films.
Murray returned to acting in 2017 with a recurring role in the third season of the mystery series "Twin Peaks". He continued to appear in films and television shows into 2021, and passed away in 2024 at the age of 95.
