Biography

Don Penny's Early Life and Education

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Don Penny's childhood was marked by a mischievous streak, as he often got into trouble with future famous comedian Woody Allen and other classmates. Despite this, Penny's quick mind and fast learning abilities, which might be diagnosed as Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) today, allowed him to excel academically.

Naval Reserve and Public Service

Penny's dedication to public service began early, as he served in the Korean War. After the war, he continued to serve in the United States Naval Reserve for 38 years. During his time in the Navy, he also pursued a career in public service, establishing the White House Communications Agency during the Johnson Administration. Later, he would go on to become the Deputy Director for White House Communications in the Administration of Gerald R. Ford.

Education and Early Career

Penny's educational background is impressive, with a degree in theatre arts from Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. He began his career in the entertainment industry, working in Broadway, national touring companies, and regional theater. Eventually, he made his way to Hollywood and network television, where he landed roles in popular shows such as "That Girl," "Wackiest Ship in the Army," and "Gomer Pyle USMC." In addition to acting, Penny also wrote for notable programs like "The Steve Allen Show" and "The Monkees."

Post-Ford Administration and Consulting Career

After leaving the Ford Administration, Penny worked in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., where he founded his own strategic communications company. He went on to work with numerous high-profile clients, including the Cabinets of Presidents Reagan and Bush, as well as members of the Senate and House. His clients also included Queen Elizabeth II and other Washington luminaries.

Personal Life and Speaking Engagements

Penny currently resides in Los Angeles, where he continues to consult with friends and colleagues in business, government, and the military. He is also an in-demand speaker, sharing his wit and comedic talents with young people and inspiring them to find joy and purpose in their lives.
