Dorothy Uhnak, a woman with a clear sense of purpose from a young age, was born almost adjacent to the 46th Precinct house in the Bronx. This proximity to the world of law enforcement had a profound impact on her, as she knew from the very start that she wanted to become a police officer. And so, she embarked on a fourteen-year journey with the Metropolitan New York Transit Police, serving twelve of those years as a detective.
Her dedication to her education ultimately led her to resign from the force in order to pursue her academic goals at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in Manhattan. During her time at the college, Uhnak found success as a writer, publishing her first book, the semi-autobiographical novel "Policewoman". This marked the beginning of a prolific writing career, as she went on to write and publish numerous police procedurals and detective novels, both in book-length and short fiction formats.
Her work would eventually be adapted into made-for-television movies, further cementing her status as a respected and accomplished author.
