This nascent interest was subsequently nurtured and refined as he embarked on a rigorous course of study, first at Ohio University, where he earned a degree in Theater, followed by a Bachelor of Arts in Dramatic Art at Cleveland State University in Ohio, thereby laying the foundation for a multifaceted career that would span both the worlds of art and medicine.
J.J. Garry, Jr. embarked on a journey of artistic discovery under the watchful eyes of his esteemed mentors, J.J. Garry, Jr., artistic director of the renowned Playhouse Square Association, and Richard Oberlin, then Director of the esteemed Cleveland Playhouse.
Under their guidance, he meticulously honed his acting skills, carefully refining his craft, and developed a profound passion for the art of acting.
After redirecting his attention towards other pursuits, the individual remained actively involved in the acting community by contributing to the production of the esteemed theatrical piece, "The Normal Heart", at the renowned Cleveland Playhouse. This artistic endeavour was brought to life under the skilled direction of J.J. Garry Jr., who took the reins following the untimely passing of Richard Oberlin. Notably, the production boasted a notable collaboration between William Rhys, then the respected Director of the Cleveland Playhouse, and other talented individuals.
