Biography

Edward Owens, a groundbreaking African American artist and filmmaker, explored the realms of painting, sculpture, and cinematography during his time at the prestigious School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). Notably, his initial experiments with 8mm movies served as the foundation for his future artistic endeavors. Under the guidance of his esteemed mentor, the renowned filmmaker Gregory Markopoulos, Owens made the bold decision to relocate to New York City, where he would form lasting connections with fellow artist-filmmaker-poet Charles Boultenhouse, with whom he shared a romantic connection.
