Biography

Eric Sherman's life has been deeply intertwined with the film industry, spanning nearly his entire lifetime. Born in Los Angeles, he grew up on the iconic Hollywood backlots, witnessing his father, Vincent Sherman, direct some of the most legendary stars of the era, including Humphrey Bogart, Errol Flynn, Clark Gable, Richard Burton, Paul Newman, Joan Crawford, Bette Davis, Rita Hayworth, and Ava Gardner.

As he transitioned into academia, Eric Sherman attended Yale University, initially majoring in mathematics before co-founding the Yale Film Society and becoming the institution's first Scholar of the House in Film. This early foray into filmmaking led him to create his debut movie, the documentary "Charles Lloyd: Journey Within" (1969),which premiered at the New York Film Festival and garnered praise from "Variety" as "perhaps the finest film ever made about a jazz musician."

Throughout his career, Eric Sherman has produced, directed, photographed, and edited numerous documentary portraits of prominent scholars, artists, athletes, and civic leaders. In 1976, he established FilmTransform, Inc., a comprehensive production company that has produced an extensive range of "moving image" products, including feature films, television programs, educational series for PBS, documentaries, corporate profiles, instructional videos, and commercials.
