Biography

Erin F. Moriarty is a renowned American television news reporter and correspondent, who has been a stalwart presence on the popular CBS program "48 Hours" since 1990. Her impressive career has been marked by numerous accolades, including multiple national Emmy Awards, which she has won on several occasions.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Moriarty grew up in Columbus, Ohio, and went on to graduate from Ohio State University, where she earned a degree in behavioral sciences and was inducted into the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa honor society. She furthered her education by receiving a law degree from the same university in 1977.

Moriarty is licensed to practice law in both Ohio and Maryland, and has a storied career that predates her time at CBS News. Prior to joining the network, she worked as an award-winning consumer reporter for WMAQ-TV in Chicago from 1983 to 1986. Her reporting experience also includes stints at WCMH-TV in Columbus, Ohio, from 1979 to 1980; WJZ-TV in Baltimore from 1980 to 1982; and WJKW-TV in Cleveland, Ohio, from 1982 to 1983.

Throughout her career, Moriarty's reporting has earned her virtually every major journalism award available. In 2019, she was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation. Her impressive collection of awards includes nine Emmy Awards, three Gracie Awards, and a 2014 duPont-Columbia award, which she received as part of the team coverage of the Newtown, Connecticut, elementary school shooting.

Moriarty's work has also been recognized by the "CBS Sunday Morning" program, which earned a 2015 Daytime Emmy Award for her contributions. In addition, she has been honored with the Top 100 Award from Irish America magazine in both 2000 and 2003. In 1988, she received the Outstanding Consumer Media Service Award presented by the Consumer Federation of America.
