Fawzia Mirza is a highly accomplished and award-winning filmmaker, whose impressive credentials include being a White House Champion of Change, a Tribeca Film Institute alum, and a Ryan Murphy's Half Initiative directing program participant. Additionally, she is an Islamic Scholarship Fund Winner and her feature script "Heirloom" was named to the 2022 Muslim List, published by The Black List.
As a writer and actress, Fawzia co-wrote and starred in the feature film "Signature Move", which world premiered at SXSW, won 15 awards, including the US Grand Jury Prize at Outfest, and starred Indian film legend Shabana Azmi as her mother. Her work on CBS' "The Red Line" executive produced by Greg Berlanti & Ava DuVernay, marked the first queer, Muslim romance on network TV.
Fawzia's award-winning shorts, including "The Queen of My Dreams", "Saya", "Spunkle", "The First Session", "Reclaiming Pakistan", and "The Streets Are Ours", have screened globally. She wrote and directed "Noor & Layla", which premiered at BlackStar and Bentonville, and was distributed by Frameline Voices, CBC Gem, and Argo. Her short "Brown Elephant", co-written with Kausar Mohammed, was commissioned by 20th Digital Studio and gained 2.3M views on Twitter.
Fawzia also directed the award-winning TikTok series "Hidden Canyons" and the romantic comedy "The Syed Family Xmas Eve Game Night", which world premiered at TIFF, was named to Canada's Top 10, and featured on Harper's Bazaar's "Best Christmas Movies of 2021". Her short "Auntie", executive produced by Paul Feig, premiered at Aspen Shortsfest and Hamptons Int'l, and is now streaming on The New Yorker.
As an executive producer, Fawzia worked on the feature documentary "Coming Around", which world premiered at Thessaloniki, and the upcoming documentary "Gifted", alongside Andria Wilson Mirza, Samantha Curley, and Chase Joynt. Fawzia is currently in post-production on her directorial feature debut "The Queen of My Dreams", a mother-daughter dramedy shot in Canada and Pakistan, starring Amrit Kaur, Nimra Bucha, and Hamza Haq.
