Biography

Filip Renč, a multifaceted Czech creative force, hailing from the land of a thousand faces, was ushered into this world on August 17, 1965. The cinematic spark that would ignite his passion for storytelling and performance was first fanned into a flame during his childhood, when the magic of movies and the thrill of drama first captivated his imagination.

As a youngster, Renč's innate talent and curiosity led him to begin appearing in films at an early age, making his debut in the cinematic realm with roles in the 1980 production "Julek" and the 1983 release "Leve kridlo".

Renč, a talented individual, pursued his academic endeavors at the prestigious Film and Television School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, also known as FAMU.

During his time at FAMU, Renč demonstrated his creative prowess by crafting a series of documentaries, including Zapadákov and Srdíčko. These documentary masterpieces garnered significant recognition at the International Film Schools Festival, where Renč received prestigious awards in 1987 and 1988.

Following the completion of his academic pursuits, Renč embarked on a illustrious career in filmmaking, helming a string of commercially successful movies, including the critically acclaimed "From Subway with Love" in 2005 and the recently released "At Your Own Risk" in 2008.

In addition to his work behind the camera, Renč has also made a name for himself in the realm of television commercials and music videos, showcasing his versatility as a director.

As a screenwriter, Renč has penned scripts for numerous films, many of which he would later go on to direct himself, including the thought-provoking "The Rebels" in 2001, the visually stunning "Válka barev" in 1993, and the poignant "Requiem for a Maiden" in 1991.

Beyond his impressive body of work as a cinematographer, Renč has also ventured into the realm of acting, making appearances in a number of notable films. Two notable examples of his acting credits include his role in the 1991 film "The Ride" and his own directorial effort, "Requiem for a Maiden", which was also released in 1991.
