Garfield Morgan was born in Birmingham, England, in the year nineteen thirty-one. Initially, he embarked on a brief sojourn as a trainee dental technician, before subsequently training as an actor at a local drama school. His professional career commenced at the esteemed Arena Theatre in Birmingham during the fifties, and he later became involved in both production and directing duties at The Marlow Theatre in Canterbury, Kent, and at The Library Theatre, Manchester.
Throughout the seventies, Morgan held the esteemed position of Associate Director at Northgate Theatre and Associate Director at The Nottingham Playhouse. His television career began in the mid-fifties, and although initially featuring small parts, during the sixties, he began to take on more substantial roles. Notably, he portrayed the character of Detective Chief Inspector Lewis in the BBC's long-running series, Softly Softly, in 1966.
Morgan frequently played policemen, with one of his most iconic roles being that of DCI Frank Haskins in the popular television series, The Sweeney, in 1975. He shared the screen with the talented John Thaw and Dennis Waterman, where he skillfully played the role of a foil to Thaw's brash, renegade Inspector Jack Regan. In addition to his work on The Sweeney, Morgan was a regular in other television series, such as The Nineteenth Hole, You Must Be the Husband, Shelley, and No Job for a Lady, all of which aired during the eighties and nineties.
Although Morgan's film career was relatively limited, he did secure a notable role in The Odessa File in 1974. In his personal life, he was married to the accomplished actress Dilys Laye, although the union ultimately ended in divorce. Morgan succumbed to cancer on December 5, 2009, just a few months after his former wife's passing.
