Garrett's career in commercials began as an assistant to renowned director Larry Hutson, simultaneously establishing Seattle's Annex Theatre, which has produced over 300 shows, including the world premiere of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, running to sold-out audiences for nearly a year.
Garrett graduated from the American Film Institute, ranking among the top directors in a notable class of writers and directors, including Darren Aronofsky, Mark Waters, and Todd Field. During his time at AFI, he was honored as Best Director by the Hollywood Foreign Press for his featurette, END OF THE ICON, starring Academy Award nominee Eric Roberts.
Garrett's first feature, FAREWELL TO HARRY, won the BEST FILM Award at Worldfest Houston and earned him a nomination for an Independent Spirit Award in the "Someone to Watch" category.
Garrett's subsequent film, A RELATIVE THING, took the Audience Award for BEST FILM at the Sedona International Film Festival and received the Best Ensemble Performance Award at the Phoenix Film Festival, with a nomination for the New American Cinema Awards at the Seattle International Film Festival.
Garrett's next feature, THE SPY AND THE SPARROW, received critical acclaim from Hollywood Reporter's lead Film Critic Stephen Farber, who called it "An engrossing, superbly acted movie!" The film was picked up by Mara Vista and Warner Brothers Home Video for worldwide distribution.
Garrett's subsequent film, SHUFFLE, received numerous awards, including BEST THRILLER at the Canadian Film Festival and BEST DIRECTOR at the American International Festival.
Currently, Garrett continues to direct commercials for the challenge of storytelling in the short form, while in development on a thriller trilogy feature film and a macabre television series spanning three decades.
