Gerald W. Abrams is a renowned television producer who has produced over 70 films throughout his illustrious career. He is best known for his work on films such as Houdini (2014),Nuremberg (2000),and Family of Spies (1990). Houdini, a two-part, four-hour miniseries for History, was cable television's top-rated miniseries of 2014.
Abrams has been nominated for two Emmys, with the most recent being for Nuremberg, a dramatized account of the war crime trials following the defeat of Nazi Germany in WWII. The film starred Alec Baldwin and Christopher Plummer and was directed by Yves Simoneau. It premiered in July 2000 and was one of the highest-rated cable mini-series in history, receiving three Golden Globe nominations, a PGA Award nomination, and four Primetime Emmy nominations.
Abrams graduated from Penn State University and began his television career with WCBS-TV as an account executive. He worked his way up through CBS Television national sales to head the West Coast Sales. Shortly thereafter, he was appointed general sales manager of KCBS-TV, the CBS-owned station in Los Angeles.
Abrams formed his own company, Cypress Point Productions, in 1978. Through Cypress Point, he executive produced a number of films, including Letters From Frank, starring Art Carney and introducing Michael J. In addition to his work on film, Abrams has also produced a number of television series, including Cutter To Houston, starring Alec Baldwin, and A Woman Called Golda, starring Ingrid Bergman.
Abrams has continued to produce films and television series throughout his career, including the Emmy-nominated television movie Out of the Ashes, the FX Network's highest-rated show in its nine-year history, and the Hallmark Channel's A Christmas Visitor.
In his personal life, Abrams has been married to his late wife, Carol Abrams, and has a daughter, Tracy Rosen, who is also a writer and producer.
