Nottingham-born Geraldine Moffat, a talented English supporting actress of the 1960s and 1970s, is best recognized for her sultry role as Glenda in the Michael Caine cult gangster film Get Carter (1971). Her casting in this iconic movie was a direct result of her impressive performances in two anthology TV dramas devised by Alun Owen, and her local background in Nottingham allowed her to maintain the film's regional authenticity.
Born to Eric Gerald Moffat and his wife Doris Emmie (née Wells),Geraldine was trained at the prestigious Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Her stage debut occurred in a 1959 Old Vic production of Lysistrata, and she went on to act in several plays for the Nottingham Playhouse Theatre Company in 1964. Her first recurring role on screen was as a veterinarian's aide in the children's series Badger's Bend (1963),released by Associated-Rediffusion Television.
Geraldine often played glamorous and chic roles, making guest appearances on various popular prime-time entertainments, including The Baron (1966),Department S (1969),Z Cars (1962),UFO (1970),and The Persuaders! (1971).
In 1971, Geraldine married Walter Maurice Houser, a West End solicitor and alto saxophonist. She retired from screen acting in 1980. Her two sons, Sam and Dan Houser, are renowned video game designers.
