Gil Shaham is an American violinist of Israeli descent, born on February 19, 1971, in Urbana, Illinois. His parents, Jacob and Meira Diskin Shaham, were on an academic fellowship at the University of Illinois at the time of his birth. His father, Jacob, was an astrophysicist, and his mother, Meira, was a cytogeneticist.
