Ryan "Gitz Crazyboy" Derangé, a Siksikatsitapi (Blackfoot) and Dene youth facilitator, was born in Mohkínsstsisi, also known as Calgary.
As a passionate and purpose-driven individual, Gitz dedicates his life to empowering the next generation through his work as a youth educator. Since graduating from high school, he has been committed to creating youth-focused programs and working with young people.
As an ardent advocate for environmental and Indigenous rights, Gitz has been an influential leader and participant in the Idle No More movement, a significant Indigenous mobilization in Canadian history. His deep connection to traditional teachings, instilled in him by his mother's reading to him as a child, continues to guide him, with the wisdom of Elders serving as his guiding force.
In addition to his passion for storytelling, Gitz is also an accomplished writer and musician, with a love for discovering new sounds. His curiosity and sense of adventure have taken him to various parts of the world, including Germany, Ecuador, Guyana, Puerto Rico, and sacred spaces across North America.
Throughout his life, Gitz has had the privilege of learning and living with different Indigenous nations, incorporating these experiences into everything he does. Currently, he resides in Calgary, where he is actively reconnecting with his Blackfoot roots.
Gitz believes that the truth of who we are lies in the truth and mysteries carried by our ancestors, through ceremonies, songs, medicine, love, and laughter.
