Biography

Gregory M. Brown, a multifaceted individual, is an American Actor, Writer, Director, and Producer, born on November 20, 1948, in Irvington, New Jersey, to Warren John Brown and Nell Joyce (Garlick) Brown.

His father, Warren, was a stage actor, singer, and musician who performed at the renowned Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, New Jersey, while his mother, Nell, was a housewife who would later become the first female member of the Stock Transfer Agents Association in New York, serving as a manager at Union Pacific Corporation. Gregory is the eldest of three children, with a sister, Suzanne Tara (Brown) Jordan, and a brother, David Patrick Brown.

The family's life took a significant turn when Gregory's parents divorced after thirteen years of marriage, when he was just six years old. His mother, along with Gregory and his siblings, moved in with her parents in Paterson, New Jersey, where Gregory spent his formative years. He attended Eastside High School, which gained fame with the movie Lean on Me (1989) starring Morgan Freeman. Gregory graduated high school in 1966 and remained in Paterson until his enlistment in the U.S. Navy in November 1967.

During his time in the Navy, Gregory served a tour in Vietnam aboard the USS Steinaker (DD-863),a Navy destroyer, and deployed on two other cruises to the Caribbean and North Atlantic. After his separation from active duty in 1971, he enlisted in the Naval Reserve and began working in the information technology field on Wall Street, a career path that would span several decades, including a stint as a Vice President at J.P. Morgan Chase, until his retirement in 2005.

Despite his passion for performing, which began as a teenager in church and school plays, Gregory did not pursue a career in acting due to his parents' divorce. His mother's disapproval led him to put his acting aspirations on hold, and he didn't return to the stage until he was 59 years old, after his retirement from J.P. Morgan Chase and the military.
