Greta Rutz-Nissen, a Norwegian actress born on January 30, 1905, in Oslo, Norway, began her journey in the world of dance as a young girl, with aspirations to make a career out of it. She did pursue dance for a while, but at the age of 19, she took her first step into the world of cinema, starring in the big-screen production, The Wanderer, in 1925. Following this debut, she appeared in several more films, yet her career was significantly impacted by the advent of sound films.
One notable setback for Greta was when she was initially chosen for the lead role in Hell's Angels (1930) by the renowned filmmaker, Howard Hughes, only to be replaced by Jean Harlow due to her distinct Norwegian accent. This pivotal role catapulted Harlow to stardom, while Greta's career continued to unfold with varying degrees of success throughout the 1930s.
Although she remained fairly busy during this period, Greta never quite achieved the breakout role she so desperately desired. After appearing in the film Danger in Paris in 1937, she decided to leave the screen forever. Greta Rutz-Nissen passed away on May 17, 1988, at the age of 83, due to complications from Parkinson's disease.
