Hesam Dehghani was born in Tehran, Iran, as the first child of a physics teacher father and a history teacher mother. This unique upbringing likely had a profound impact on his creative and analytical thinking, which would later serve him well in his career as a filmmaker.
As a young boy, Hesam became fascinated with playing the violin, a passion that would stay with him throughout his life. This early exposure to music and the arts laid the groundwork for his future pursuits in the world of filmmaking.
Hesam's educational background is equally impressive. He attended Iran University of Science and Technology in 1995, where he studied computer engineering. During his time at the university, he made his first student short film, "The Incredible Story of the Computer Campus," in 2000 for the university's Film Center.
As a student, Hesam directed four other short films, including "Conjure," "An Skeleton in Black," "Last Night on Earth," and "Hypnotism." These films were selected and screened at various film festivals, including the prestigious Tehran Short Film Festival.
Hesam's early education in filmmaking was supplemented by training courses, including the "Techniques of Non-Linear Editing" course he attended in Harris Company's head office in Bracknell, United Kingdom in 2003.
After completing his education, Hesam worked on various short and documentary film projects as a writer, director, and producer. Since 2011, he has been involved in international filmmaking projects, collaborating with other talented filmmakers from around the world.
In addition to his work in film, Hesam is also a co-founder and manager at Persian Magic Art Group, a company that specializes in creating innovative and captivating visual effects. He is also a Lead Producer at CollabFeature, an international team of independent filmmakers.
Hesam's most recent success came with his short thriller film "Trauma," which premiered in 2020 and went on to win numerous awards at international film festivals. This success led him to make his first feature film, "The Darkest Side," which won the Best Feature Film Award at the ACDC International Film Festival in Belgium in 2021.
In 2021, Hesam worked with Windfall Films to create a feature-length documentary film for Discovery+ and Science Channel. The resulting film, "Lost Empire of Persia," was a massive international success, winning the Bronze Medal at the New York TV and Movie Festival in 2022.
