Ian Hutchinson, a remarkable road racing legend, has etched his name in the annals of history by becoming the first and, to date, the only TT rider to achieve an astonishing feat of winning five solo races within a single week. His impressive tally of 16 victories at the Isle of Man TT places him fourth in the all-time list of greatest road racers.
In 2010, Hutchinson's remarkable achievement was witnessed by the world, as he competed against an elite group of road racers, including Cameron Donald, John McGuinness, Guy Martin, Conor Cummins, and Michael Dunlop. However, fate took a devastating turn just a few months later, when Hutchinson was involved in a horrific short circuit accident, resulting in a severely broken leg.
The injury forced him to miss the 2011 TT, but he made a heroic return in 2012, despite the immense pain and discomfort, and managed to secure top-ten finishes. Hutchinson's determination and resilience were once again on full display in 2017, when he won two races, thereby moving to 16 wins overall and solidifying his position among the greatest road racers of all time.
Tragedy struck again in 2018, when Hutchinson suffered another harrowing crash at over 100mph, resulting in a badly broken leg, the same limb that had almost been amputated in 2010, shortly after his record-breaking five wins in TT week. Undeterred, Hutchinson made a remarkable recovery and returned to racing at the 2018 TT, exactly one year after the accident left him unable to walk for 11 months.
