At the esteemed New York Dance Festival, held at the legendary Roseland Ballroom in February 2008, he distinguished himself by securing first place in the Tango, Waltz, and Foxtrot competitions within his age group, a testament to his remarkable talent and dedication. As a devoted student of Ballroom Dancing at Pierre DuLane's Dance Studio, Ian has not only refined his skills in the classical styles, but has also explored other genres, including Rumba, Swing, Merenge, and is currently expanding his repertoire by learning the vibrant rhythms of Salsa and the captivating flair of Cha-Cha.
Ian's remarkable prowess extends far beyond his impressive dancing abilities, as he is also a highly accomplished Hung Fut (Kung Fu) champion, boasting a distinguished record in the weapons division. In June 2007, he made a notable debut, securing the top spot in the Long Weapons Long Hand Form category within the beginners' youth division (under 13) at the esteemed Five Tigers Championship held in Baltimore, Maryland.
The following year, Ian repeated his triumphant performance, claiming the first place prize once again in the same category, this time within the beginners' teen division (13-16) at the same prestigious championship. This impressive feat served as a testament to his dedication and natural aptitude for the martial art.
In September 2008, Ian further solidified his reputation as a formidable Kung Fu competitor, taking home the bronze medal in the Long Weapons Long Hand Form category within the intermediate teen division (13-16) at the Wong Fei Hung All Kung Fu Championships held in Jersey City, New Jersey. Notably, Ian was the youngest competitor in his division, a distinction that speaks to his exceptional skill and potential for continued success in the world of Kung Fu.
